Experience That Goes Beyond a Single Case
My name is Vasyl Samolyuk.
I am a lawyer with over 20 years of legal practice and a Candidate of Legal Sciences (PhD in Law).
My professional journey began with teaching law at university. It was during this time that I realized the law cannot be effectively taught from textbooks alone. To truly explain the law to others, one must apply it in practice every single day. This principle has guided me throughout my entire professional career.
Advocacy has become the main mission of my life. It has given me the opportunity to handle complex court disputes, criminal proceedings, corporate conflicts, and landmark cases that influence not only the lives of individual clients but also shape judicial practice itself.
Advocacy Begins with Trust
For me, a lawyer is not just a representative in court. It is a person whom the client trusts with what is most important: their freedom, reputation, family, business, or property.
That is why my work is built on three fundamental principles: professionalism, integrity, and principledness.
The primary professional duty of a lawyer is to do no harm to the client. Every decision, every procedural step, and every strategy must be carefully weighed, taking into account all possible legal and practical consequences.
Experience That Shapes Judicial Practice
Over the years, I have represented clients in cases that have played a significant role in shaping the legal positions of the Supreme Court of Ukraine.
Following my cassation appeals, the Supreme Court has repeatedly established legal conclusions that are now used by courts when considering similar cases. This is the result of work that goes beyond the interests of an individual client and contributes to the development of judicial practice in Ukraine.
In particular, following my cassation appeals, the Supreme Court has formulated legal conclusions on:
- the inadmissibility of the formal detention of foreigners beyond the statutory time limit in temporary accommodation centres;
- the preservation of Ukrainian citizenship in cases where it was acquired by operation of law;
- the validity of urban planning conditions and restrictions until the completion of construction, regardless of the phased execution of works;
- certain approaches to the division of valuable property between spouses.
Among the complex cases of recent years:
- Protection of a company from a claim for UAH 16 million based on forged documents;
- Defence in an NABU criminal proceeding, where the court set bail at UAH 66,000 instead of the UAH 7 million requested by the prosecution;
- Defence of a foreign citizen in a drug smuggling case, in which the defence is challenging the legality of law enforcement actions and the validity of the charges.
For me, every case is first and foremost a responsibility to a specific person or business. Only then does it become a professional challenge.
How I Work
I do not use template solutions or make unfounded promises.
Clients are always kept fully informed about existing risks, the reasons behind the chosen strategy, what is happening at every stage of the case, and what decisions need to be made moving forward.
My work begins with the most thorough analysis of all case materials. Every case must be studied and prepared to perfection — because in law, a single mistake can be extremely costly.
I am convinced that successful defence begins with trust. That is why I strive to ensure that every client, upon completion of the case, can say: “This is a person I can trust as much as myself.”
